Musician's Corner—Patrick Dumadag Jr.

It’s hard to put into words what I know and love about Patrick‘Boy’ Dumadag, Jr.  Let me start by saying it is ‘mo bettah’ that you meet him in person.  Growing up the oldest in Kahaluu’s friendly home full of musicians, singers and songwriters, I believe he and his three sisters and five brothers are splitting images of their wonderful parents, Uncle Pat and Aunty Madeline Dumadag.  The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree and the Dumadag family is a gift to the Catholic faith, and long time parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on the Windward side.  I cannot speak of Boy and not speak of his family.  They are one in the same.  A family that prays together stays together.  Boy has a beautiful, loving wife Roxanne and four children, all of whom are actively involved in life changing retreat experiences.  Uncle Boy, as he is known to many of the younger generation, is a simple, happy-go-lucky, warm-hearted man on fire for the love of God.  The first time I heard his masterpiece song “Living Water” was back in 1992 at a BCC retreat.  I think this song is one of the best pieces of music ever written!  The song is so personal and shows the unconditional love of the Father, who gave us his Son Jesus, so we may never have to grow thirsty again.  I will forever remember all the Godly moments the Dumadag family provided me and my family with.  They are friends for life!

Youth FeatureQuerida Aki

This Campbell High School incoming junior is actively involved in music ministry at OLPH Church.  She belongs to the Saturday evening choir who recently did a concert with Jesse Manibussan, Catholic national recording artist.  Querida’s dream is to be a fashion designer.  She is involved in school activities such as helping out with project graduation and work in the school office.  She enjoys singing, drawing and dancing.  After high school, she plans to go to college and “make something out of my life”.  She is the daughter of Linda Darden who also sings in the church choir.  Querida finds it hard to step out of line especially with mom Linda patrolling the grounds at CHS as one of the few dependable security guards on campus.  Her fondest memory growing up in the Church is singing in the Christmas Concert at OLPH and giving her first offering of five dollars that her aunt gave her for her birthday at the age of five.  She would like to tell her peers to “trust in God and you will be able to pursue anything”.

Song of the Month“Living Water” © 1992.  Patrick Dumadag, Jr.

Written in 4/4 time, metronome speed of 20, ballad style

Lord give me water, give me living water, give me living water, I don’t want to thirst no more.

Lord you came to comfort me when I was all alone.  You talked about my pains in life, I wondered how you known.  You told me if I drank from you living water that you poured.  They’ll be no pain and I’ll never thirst no more.

Lord you know the way I lived at times I feel ashamed.  I didn’t know I hurt you so but still you call my name.  You said turn around and speak my name and share the love I give.  With open arms you died for me in your love I’ll always live.

Prayer of the Month

Dear Lord, you truly are my soul provider.  You truly are all I need to survive in this life.  Please help me not to lose faith in trusting you for all of my needs.  At times, it’s hard to see past the paycheck that’s run out.  May I often be reminded of the true acts of faith lived out by your saints who turned to you for total dependency.  Lord, as our country America celebrates 226 years of Independence Day, may we never go too far from depending on you.  We need you and I pray we each find you in this life.  Please help place in office men and women who can bring forth moral leadership and equip them with a heart full of compassion and a sound mind.  For the times we go astray and choose sin over you, forgive us Lord.  Help us to guard our eyes, thoughts, ears, speech and actions against evil and temptation and shower your blessings upon us accordingly.  In God we trust.  In Jesus Name we pray.

Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
