Different Types of Vaping Devices

This industry is expanding at such a fast pace, it is hard to keep up, and at times can be pretty confusing, even overwhelming.

Our 2016 Vaping Device Recommendations

Here we have our top recommendations from a few of the major categories of vapor products. Whether you are brand new, or looking for the next product for your arsenal, we hope to have a few nice selections to choose from.

Cigalikes – Rechargeable and Disposable

Cigalikes, or mini e cigs, are what most people think of for a standard electronic cigarette. These are what you see in convenience stores and gas stations next to cigarettes, which look pretty similar, though they typically have just 1 or two in a package.

If you are brand new to e-cigs, doing some research, this is a great way to find out if you like it

With a rechargeable device, you can recharge the battery and they will last for a couple hours.

Typical Rechargeable E-Cig

Eversmoke Battery

Disposables look almost the same, and function the same, though they are a one time use e-cig.

A disposable is the cheapest way to try one out, as that is all you need, and they are usually rated as having roughly the same amount of nicotine as a full pack of cigarettes.

Pros and Cons of Disposables

The upside is that you can just take a couple puffs, and put it down, unlike a real cigarette, where you light it up, and either smoke the whole thing or can save it if you really want, though that stinks up your pack or pocket.

The downside is that you could finish it off in a few hours if you vape like crazy. On average, they can last 3 hours or much longer, depending on the size of the disposable, and of course how heavily you are vaping.

Cost

Using disposables are going to cost more than rechargeable e-cigs. Each one has a cartridge (looks like a cigarette filter), which is what contains the nicotine and flavor that turns into vapor. The rechargeable cartridge is built in, and rechargeable cartridges are replaceable. It costs roughly half as much to use rechargeables, as you only need to replace the cartridges (cartomizers).

(Tip: you can get these as single units at many local gas stations/convenience stores)

eGo Vape Pens

This is  often a next step. eGos are a larger battery, and they allow a larger piece in place of the e-cig cartridge, called a tank or clearomizer.

Typical eGo Pen

Vaporfi Pro Vape Pen

The battery and e-liquid last longer, and you typically can get a full day out of an eGo set up. Of course there are different sizes here as well, and the biggest eGo batteries could even go for 2 days or more.

Adjustable eGos

There are also adjustable eGo vapes for when someone wants some control over their e-cig, where you can adjust the power, to create more vapor, or also the fine tune the flavor.

Mods

This is a broad category, which even encompasses eGos, as it is typically anything beyond your standard cigalike, though it is mostly thought of as more advanced or powerful devices than an eGo.

Typical Box Mod with Digital Screen

VOX II

More advanced means that you have more options, such as variable power output, or control of the airflow through the device, and some other options to control the functioning of the device. Some of these can even include features such as the ability to charge your smartphone while you vape, such as the Innokin iTaste MVP series.

Mod Categories

The main mod categories are eGos, tube mods, mechanical mods, box mods, and then variable wattage and variable voltage.

A few of these categories overlap, as with box mods, they mostly all have variable power options, and then mechanical mods are just straight forward on/off devices, often with beautiful craftsmanship.

Sub Ohm

This is a really popular trend, which is comprised of mods and e-liquids that are essentially geared towards creating lots of vapor, and there are flavor preferences achievable from tinkering with sub ohm settings.

It essentially consists of an atomizer which has a resistance of less than 1 ohm, and that means more power flowing through, creating big clouds of vapor. This would be one of the more advanced areas of vaping, and you want to know what you’re doing with this, as you’re pushing higher power levels through the different components.

Vaporizers

Technically, any device that creates vapor, is a vaporizer, e-cigs, eGos, box mods etc., though in this category are introduced other materials to be vaped, such as waxes, oils and loose leaf products. Much of this can be done with eGOs etc as well, but vaporizers often refers to portable and desktop units that vaporize herbs, oils and waxes.

That covers most of the bases of the vaping devices that are currently available, and at present, there is an incredible amount of new devices being released, seemingly every day, and it is a very exciting time to explore the vaping world!

Sub Ohm E Liquids

A basic guideline for choosing vape liquid is that your coil should be able to handle the viscosity of your juice. It can’t be a CE5 coil if you want to vape 70% vegetable glycerin (PG).

While 100% propylene glycol (PG) is fine for almost any system, max-VG is not. Your atomizer has to be specially designed for dripping at low or even sub-ohms (a Nautilus or Aspire tank, perhaps the Smok VCT, and a mechanical mod or adjustable box mod.)

That is what quality sub ohm vape liquids require: atomizer coils built for thick e juice to get through without clogging and at high temperatures. They also shine brightest with the power of a variable watt device behind them.

Great E Juice

Several brands of e liquid are sold in multiple versions with more PG than VG, or vice versa, and usually a 50/50 option as well. Buying max-VG e liquid, however, is no guarantee of quality.

When you apply high temperatures to juice, the good is very good and bad qualities stand out. The top 5 sub-ohm vape juices are thick, but there is more to it than that. They are also rich in flavor and high quality ingredients. Usually these include at least 10% PG.

Kings Crown Bottles1. King’s Crown

We don’t know what the balance is here but we do know this is excellent vape liquid for dripping atomizers and RTAs by the maker of Suicide Bunny e liquid.

There are 4 flavors, $22 for 30 ml, with up to 12 mg of nicotine. Bound by the Crown blends ripe stone fruits with custard and spice.

Claim Your Throne wraps butterscotch in sweet creams and brown sugar. Fight Your Fate with tart lemon and sweet strawberry. The King’s favorite food is peanut butter.

Vista Select Cloud Series2. Vista Vapors

Along with their usual line of customizable flavors, Vista Vapors launched their Premium line of cloud or ocean vapes.

Alto Stratus is candied fruit with some customers suggesting apple as the core flavor. Nimbo Stratus blends melon with something floral but lovely.

The Atlantic Ocean is made of caramel according to Vista Vapors, but the Arctic is crisp with berries and spearmint. A 30-ml bottle costs just $11.99, so this is the economical vaper’s answer to gourmet liquid.

Mythos E Juice3. Mythos E Juice

Out of all the liquids I am going to talk about here, quality and safety are the most traceable and transparent with Mythos.

They run an independent laboratory where they apply lot numbers to every bottle and use only USP-certified vegetable glycerin.

The nicotine base is this same VG while flavorings are 100% organic. Mythos styles include Poseidon (Lemon-Lime), Persephone (Cantaloupe and Pear) and Athena (dessert tobacco).

Alien Visions4. Alien Visions

Again, quality is highlighted at Alien Visions where they use only USP, GRAS ingredients and a blend of 90% VG.

Their USA-made flavors are designed to taste natural and include Gryphon’s Breath, a lightly sweet tobacco.

Their 555 resembles an authentic tobacco blend. With Christy’s Cappuccino, you really notice how much like a coffee this is. Banana Slurry is full of banana.

Uncle Junks Pink Meadow5. Uncle Junk’s

One of the most popular brands in the past year is Uncle Junk’s Juice (70% VG) costing about $12.95 for a 15-ml bottle in glass with nicotine percentages of 0.3, 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8.

Their Fog Pink Meadow reminds vapers of vanilla and strawberries while Blue Fog calls to mind wild berries and citrus.
